Learning Reflection for Edtech 504

Through the course of this semester, I’ve learned to pair together concepts from learning theory with educational technology, which have in turn spurred me to put a fresh perspective on how I can, as a trainer, ensure an awesome and purposeful experience for the learner. By studying the learning theories of Social Constructivism and Social Cognition, I’ve aligned with their concepts of how knowledge is created and have started to incorporate these concepts into my learning material. It’s been amazing to encourage students to become collaborators and share their unique perspectives with each other to create meeting. Additionally, I realize more than ever the power of example and that students learn by observing and mimicking others. (Whether they realize it or not is a whole other topic in itself!) I’ve started to use these in small ways by including sample materials more often with instructions and trying to mirror the concepts I teach as much as possible. Also, I hope by giving students more specific, positive responses to their work, they will start to employee this more with their peers.

Reflection on AECT Standards:
Final Synthesis Paper:
1.4- This section of the AECT standards discusses learner characteristics. Through    researching different learning theories, especially social constructivism and social cognition, I’ve increased my ability to tailor material towards the learner and find out their individual needs. I’ve also been able to able this to instructional design.
1.1- This section of the AECT standards discusses Instructional Systems Design.  (ISD) I’ve been able to increase my workflow of design and better assess learning after reflecting more on how student’s gain knowledge.
5.4- This section of the AECT standards focuses on Long Range Planning. After completing my final synthesis paper on instructional design in online courses, I have been better prepared to think about the timeframes in which students will gain knowledge.
Annotated Bibliography:
5.1-This section of the AECT standards focuses on Problem Analysis. In my annotated bibliography, I had to focus on the problem of narrowing a large assortment of topics and finding peer-reviewed, credible sources.
Weekly Module Reflections:
1.4-This section of the AECT standards discusses learner characteristics. Through weekly reflections on different learning theories, I’ve been able to better tailor materials and course design to the learner’s needs.
5.1-This section of the AECT standards focuses on Problem Analysis. In my weekly module reflection, I focused on challenges and problems I had faced in the module and what I could to do to overcome them.
